Before Braid and Hey Mercedes, Bob Nanna was singing and playing drums in the very influential Chicago band, Friction. The band made up of Bob Nanna, Scott Broadhurst (bass) and Andy Knudsen (guitar) was part of the early '90s Chicago indie/punk scene that also spawned brother band, Cap ’n Jazz. Friction were known for their high-energy live performances, and over the course of three years, played with such bands as Jawbreaker, Samiam, The Smoking Popes, Avail, as well as many, many Cap’n Jazz shows.

The idea for this release came about after Scott Broadhurst approached Polyvinyl about releasing a Friction discography. The green light was given, and after some searching, Bob, Andy, and Scott managed to come up with every song the band ever recorded—absolutely every track including those unreleased and unfinished, as well as one live snippet from the early days. The 32 tracks were completely re-mastered onto 2 CDs and packaged with a comprehensive booklet. Included on the discs are the band's only LP--the long out-of-print, “Blurred In Six”, all their 7" and compilation tracks as well as eight songs that were finished, but never released. This includes "Auburn", "906", and "Corrective Jerk" all of which gained cult-like status amongst mix tape traders even years after the band had parted ways.
